1. Orlando Cepeda NYY
A former #1 overall pick, Cepeda is a a great power hitter and a great fielder. After a slow start to his career, he has hit .300+ for the last 2 seasons and when he plays a full season, he hits close to 50 longballs a year. Cepeda is a dominant power hitter and a defensive help for the Yankees at third.
2. Hank Blaylock SEA
Blaylock, in a very close race for #1, ends up at #2. Blaylock is about automatic for hitting .290, smashing 30 HR, and driving in 100 runs. In addition, Blaylock has an awesome glove and helps out his pitchers by making big plays. Blaylock is an extremely valuable asset to the Mariners.
3. Gary Gaetti LA
Gaetti, one of the old timers of the bunch, has been a stellar power hitter for many years. With over 500 HR, Gaetti is adding 30 to 40 to that number every year and helping the White Sox, and now the Dodgers win a lot of games. He also has a fantastic glove which helps him be the 3rd best third baseman in Habla.
4. Brooks Robinson PHI
Robinson, who hits .300, 30 homers, and 90 RBI about every year, is very solid and consistent in his role as a hitter and run prodicer for the Philies. However, Robinson's defense is what puts him a cut above the vast majority of the other third basemen out there. Robinson is one of the best defensive third basemen to ever lace up the cleats. With a trophy case filled with Gold Gloves and Silver Sluggers, it is not hard to see why he is in the top 5 in the league.
5. Will Judy Johnson ATL
Johnson, an MVP candidate a year ago, has made a statement in his 9 year career with the Braves. A .300 career hitter who combines pop and versatility in the field makes him #5 on the list.
6. Wade Boggs TEX
Boggs, a career .323 hitter who has never hit below .308 in 10 season, is a hits and average machine. He has become a very important piece in the Rangers lineup hitting second and tallying lots of doubles. He has even hit the 100 RBI mark in a season once in his career.
7. Miguel Cabrera CIN
Cabrera has built a reputation in his career as a great number 3 hitter in Cincinatti. His combination of average and power make him a great asset to any team.
8. Corey Koskie DET
Koskie, a very seasoned veteran, was a huge part of the A's lineup for many years, before going to Detroit via free agency in the off season. A consitent performer who brings a tough at bat to the plate every time, Koskie is a great talent at the hot corner.
9. Edgar Martinez ANA
Edgar is a youngster to the league, but has managed to smash at least 32 HR in each of his 3 seasons. His hot stroke is enough to make up for his poor defensive ability, which is why he is not higher on the list.
10. Bill Madlock FLA
Bill Madlock has had a stellar career playing for 6 different teams and collecting a lot of hits along the way. Unfortunately Madlock is not a good fielder, which is important at this crucial position. However, his career of hits and stolen bases has allowed him to be a great addition to every team for which he has played.

The Top 10 Third Basemen in Habla
Next, we move to the hot corner: Third Base. There have been many good young third basemen to come into the league in the past 8-10 years, and many of those made this list. Another position where defense is important, the best can handle the glove and the bat. These are the top 10 third basemen in Habla.

Yeah Justin, I was really shaky about Madlock. But i kind of did it because ha has had such a great career and i think that should count for something (and it will make Luke happy :)). My question is if we take Madlock off at 10, who should take his place? I'd be interested to see if there was a lone cadidate.
Ha! Go figure - the first Angel to make the list..isn't an Angel anymore!
Kinda shock he made the list - considering his defense.
Spies? Whoa - there's some spy action going on around here? Thanks for the heads up. :)
Let me weigh in on the whole Boggs...spy...Twins issue.
I really wanted Biggio at 10. Luke told the Indians MGR at the time that I wanted Biggio, so he took him at 9, which threw off my plan. i was forced to take the best available, which turned out to be Wade. I have since traded for Biggio, so it all worked out, and Luke got Dykstra, who has been great for him.
Thanks for bringing up painful memories Luke!!! :)
Wow, you are right. Williams definately belongs on the list over Madlock. I don't know how I missed him. Sorry Greg!
I pretty much agree with the list, but what about 3B Graig Nettles? Obviously his relatively poor offensive production up to this point in his career deserves to keep him well out of the top 10, but he and Brooks Robinson have the best career fielding% of any starting 3B in Habla right now--a .982 mark. That sort of defensive ability, especially when compared to Madlock's .931 career fld%, should outweigh a slap-hitting sieve at thirdbase. Worth thinking about anyways...

how about 3B Albert Pujols. He's done pretty well over the years.

Yeah, Pujols too. He should definately be on the list. i missed him because you have so many 3B in ACT.
No excuse though. I dropped the ball on that one.
Wait until next year when the Marlins call up David Wright he could be a top 10 right form the start.

On a serious note though it is really fun to think back on past drafts, trades, etc.... The fact that most of the owners have been around awhile really makes these stories take off and entertaining.
Does this mean I don't have to take my "I hate Bill Lee" poster down?
Darryl Evans woulda made this list if he was still around. :)
Bill Madlock sucks!
I can't believe 3B Sam Tuttle and Pujoles weren't listed.
Madlock has been trade bait for many teams. There is a reason.
