The Top 10 Shortstops in Habla

The next position we will rank is the Shortstops. The Shortstop is the only position in real life baseball that scouts look at defense first. This is also true in Habla. The Shortstop may be the most important defensive position on the field. However, a manager would like their guy to be able to hit a little too. The guys on this list are seasoned at both. Here are your top 10 Shortstops.
*Thanks to Luke (MIN) for the help.

1. Rafael Furcal MIL

Furcal combines great speed, great contact, great fielding, and a cannon arm to be the best SS in Habla. He is a .301 lifetime hitter and a memeber of the 3,000 hit club in addition to stealing over 700 bases.

2. Robin Yount CLE

Yount brings some power to the SS position, which is a little rare, having smashed nearly 300 homers in his career. That has not stopped him from hitting .311 and stealing over 300 bases in his career all while maintaining a .975 fielding percentaige.

3. Woodie Held PIT

Probably the best hitting SS in Habla history, Held has averaged about 35 homers a year in his 4 seasons in the bigs. He hits like an outfielder, but is able to adequately defend at short.

4. Alan Trammel ANA

Trammel has been a consitent .300 hitter through his career and played great defense. Several seasons into his career he developed his power and has slugged 15 or more HR in a season 4 times.

5. Ozzie Smith CIN

The Wizzard is perhaps the best defensive SS in Habla history. He has a career .991 fielding percentage to go with a .288 average and almost 500 steals.

6. Joe Cronin MIN

Cronin has over achieved in his career, but you don't hear the Twins complaining. He has a cereer .312 average with 164 homers and over 200 steals. He also has a very solid glove to go with his offensive production.

7. Angel Berroa KC

Berroa, who hits almost 20 homers a year and over .300 for his career, makes the list because of consistency. He is a great performer at SS and at the plate year in and year out.

8. Barry Larkin OAK

Larkin, who may be #1 on this list someday soon, is a youngster loaded with talent and is starting to show it. Hitting .292 and about 25 homers a season make Larkin well on his way to stardom.

9. Kaz Matsui PHI

Matsui has great defense, good speed, and solid power. He is a very important piece of the Phillies lineup and seems to get better every year.

10. Jasho Dallero COL

Dallero posts a .282 ERA and has shown signs of power hitting 30 homers last season. He also has a solid glove and has the speed to put the pressure on pitchers by stealing bases.

FIgures the best defensive (and not bad offensive) SS is left off the list but us in FLA know how good Spike Owen is.

Heh I don't think Owen is better defensively than Ozzie, at least not in FPct. :) (0.983 vs 0.991)

I wonder what their range factors are in their careers though.

And an Angel made the list! Woo!

Maybe someone would be interested in dealing for him? :)

We looked at spike, but the .255 career batting average turned us away.

He would be in the next few though for sure.

I wouldn't trade SS Alvin Dark for #10 SS Dellaero. I think Dellaero benefits hitting wise in Colorado.

Dellaero Batted .286 and .299 for my Royals and .289 for the Phillies in his 3 other full seasons outside of Colorado
