Well guys, we are a few sims into the season. The early battles for power have begun and we see that their are some amazing races heating up. Some teams we expected to be good and they are not. Others have surprised us by being hot out of the gate. Thats what I want to focus on today: The Sleeper Teams of 2027.
1. NL East: Mets
The Mets were picked by their own owner to finish 4th in the division, but a few sims in they see themselves right in the mix to compete for the division title or the wildcard. The young pitchers have pitched well and consistent, which makes this team capable of impressing this year.
2. NL Central: Cardinals and Pirates
The Cardinals finished with the third pick in the draft last year, and without making too many moves, now see themselves atop their division. Ben McDonald, the key player they did get throught trade, has been sensational and may be the guy that puts St Louis back on top.
The Pirates are the other sleeper team in this division. After trading some of the greatest names in habla for stud youngsters, the new team has impressed. Picked to finish 3rd in their division, they would win the wild card if the season ended today.
3. NL West: Padres
The Padres had the 2nd pick in last years draft in which they took Chris Carpenter, who has yet to face a batter in the bigs. However, that has not kept the Padres from currently sitting one game out of the wild card and only a few games back in their division. Could we see a turnaround?
4. AL East: Yankees
The Yankees have hovered around the top for several years, but they never had that team to threaten for a pennant. It appeared they were on the way down, as they were picked to finish 3rd in their division. Now, they are 1st in their division and the second best team in the AL.
5. AL Central: Royals
The Royals were picked to finish last in their division by fearless, but they were also the hottest team in baseball for the first three sims. The pitching has been better than expected and the hitting has been ripping the cover off the ball. This team appears to have a great shot at making the playoffs.
6. AL West: Mariners
The Mariners are a young team on a rebuilding road. They finished in the bottom quarter last season, but are in the mix this season. Only a game and a half out of the wild card, the Mariners look to make a move and get to the playoffs the year after picking 7th in the draft.

Heh I never count out the Mets. Ever. I believe they are out of it only when they have been mathematically eliminated. That said, the Marlins are trying to improve, the Phillies have taken that division before, so it could get crazy.
The Cardinals are an interesting case. Of course when you pitch and play D like they do, there's always a chance to get on those runs where no one can touch you. The Pirate offense is still a wild card over there. If the hitters click all year, they could slug their way in.
I think the AL Central is going to be a dog fight too - and who knows what could happen with the Red Sox with the trades they've made.
This could be one of the most surprising seasons ever...it just has that feel to it. Greg is right about the AL Central. It is as tight as any division I have ever seen. It will be interesting to see how many teams are in 1st place at some point during the season.
31 games into season and it appears that teams have made solid strides to improve, but, it is hard to brush aside the teams that typically perform. Look out for strong performances from Cincy, Oakland and San Fransico. Word around habla town is that SF picks is top 5, gotta believe that unit gels and makes run for Wild Card. Wont be long before the Cardinals and Padres joyride comes to screeching halt. Should be an interesting season throughout.
